Since Oct. 2016, CITG provided hundreds of job opportunities to interpreters. Over one hundred interpreters had their dreams come true. Some of these interpreters are new immigrants to Canada and they said that this is their very first full time professional job in Canada!

Employment Full time/Part time Video/Telephone Remote Interpreter 

 

Title: Video/Telephone Remote Interpreter (VRI/OPI)

 

Location: Work from home office.

 

Description: The Interpreter is responsible for handling calls on demand, and renders meaning of conversations in the consecutive mode of interpretation in medical, legal settings via video.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective video/telephone remote interpreting service for consumers using company's equipment.

  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined by Video/Telephone Interpreting;

  • Exhibit professional behavior at all times including punctuality and preparedness for contracted time windows;

  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new technologies;

 

Spoken Language Qualifications:

  • Fluent and have strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language, currently sourcing for Mandarin-English,  Cantonese-English qualified interpreters;

  • Certifications recommended such as those endorsed by CILISAT/ILISAT, completed CITG-MCIS Professional Interpreter Training or CITG grandfather training program: Community Interpreter (CESP), Legal Knowledge and Terminology, Medical Knowledge and Terminology respectively or currently under CITG-MCIS Professional Interpreter Training respectively;

  • Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting;

  • Respect for and understanding of LEP clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences.

Freelance Interpreters

 

Title: Cantonese and Mandarin Professional Interpreter (LI)

 

Description: The Interpreter is responsible for handling assignments on demand, and renders meaning of conversations accurately in the consecutive mode of interpretation. 

 

Must follow interpreter Code of Ethics:

1. Accuracy and Fidelity
2. Confidentiality
3. Impartiality
4. Respect for Persons
5. Maintaining Role Boundaries
6. Accountability
7. Professionalism
8. Continued Competence

The interpreter processes information quickly between speakers, recognizes sensitive cultural differences and maintains professional and courteous at all times. The interpreter uses appropriate industry terminology and understands common industry procedures and practices. 

  • The interpreter will deal with calls may involve simple or complex, non-technical or technical subjects in the following fields: Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, and 911, Law Enforcement, Court, and General Business.

  • Employs good customer service and communication skills as well as polite forms of expressions
